Carving a Pumpkin
When we hear the words "grammar lesson," we usually think of writing sentences, underlining verbs, or circling nouns.

Not today!! Mrs. Bauer's third grade class spent the morning in a pumpkin carving class. As Mrs. Bauer carved the pumpkin, the students eagerly surrounded her desk to watch and take notes on the process. The theme for this project was, "How to use Time/Order Words in writing."

The face was chosen by secret ballot after the class worked in groups creating faces for the pumpkin. The students voted on their favorite face, and Mrs. Bauer drew and carved the winning face.

Although the kids weren't allowed to do any carving, they did get to dig around in the pumpkin "goo" to clean out all of the seeds.

Next, they sifted through the "goo" to find and count the seeds. They each estimated the number of seeds in the pumpkin before they were tallied.

Later, Mrs. Bauer plans to wash and prepare the seeds for a pumpkin seed roast. Yum, Yum!!
